I rebuilt my wife’s yoga website with ChatGPT last night, and it left me wondering whether block themes were made for AI.
A few days ago I wrote an article called AI Is Extremely Good at HTML, and Maybe We Should Stop Fighting That.
The basic argument was simple.
AI has become remarkably good at generating HTML.
Not perfect.
But good enough that for many websites, landing pages and marketing campaigns, it’s often the fastest way I’ve found to explore ideas and build pages.
That observation led me to build my Vibe Code plugin, which is currently in review on WordPress.org.
The idea is simple.
Let AI generate the design.
Let clients edit the content.
Keep those two things separate.
The Problem Isn’t Building The Page
Creating the page is the easy bit.
ChatGPT, Claude and other AI tools can do that incredibly well.
The hard part is what happens next.
Clients need to update text.
Swap images.
Change links.
Update buttons.
What they don’t usually need is complete control over spacing, typography, colours and layouts.
In my experience many clients want content control.
Not design control.
That’s exactly what my Vibe Code plugin is designed to do.
It lets users update content while leaving the underlying design intact.
Block Theme Templates Are Perfect For AI HTML
The more I worked on this workflow, the more interesting block theme templates became.
Templates give AI-generated HTML somewhere useful to live.
Need a landing page template?
Generate it.
Need a sales page template?
Generate it.
Need a campaign page template?
Generate it.
Instead of treating AI-generated HTML as a one-off page, you can use it as part of the site’s structure.
WordPress manages the template.
The client edits the content.
The design stays consistent.
That feels like a very clean separation of concerns.
Patterns Turn AI Into A Design System
Patterns might be even more interesting.
A hero section.
A pricing table.
A testimonial block.
A call to action.
These are all things AI can generate incredibly quickly.
And once they’re patterns, they’re reusable.
Suddenly you’re not asking AI to build pages.
You’re asking it to build pieces of a design system.
Generate a hero once.
Reuse it twenty times.
Generate a testimonial section once.
Drop it into multiple projects.
That’s a very different workflow from starting with a blank page every time.
WordPress Already Has Most Of The Pieces
WordPress already has most of the pieces needed to make this work.
Templates provide structure.
Patterns provide reuse.
Block themes provide consistency.

Put those together and you get a workflow that feels effective.
For certain types of websites, especially marketing sites, landing pages and brochure websites, it feels like a very practical approach.
Not because AI replaces WordPress.
Because AI and WordPress are doing different jobs.
