WordPress 7.0 Beta is now available for testing.
This isn’t the final version. The full release is expected in April 2026.
But it gives a clear look at what’s coming.
Here are the main features in the beta.
1. WordPress now includes the foundations for AI
The beta introduces something called the AI Client.
This allows WordPress to connect to AI services like OpenAI, Google, or Anthropic.
You won’t suddenly see AI features everywhere yet.
But it creates a standard way for plugins and future tools to use AI inside WordPress.
It’s groundwork for future development.
2. You can now edit pages together in real time
Multiple people can edit the same page at the same time.
This means:
No more “post locked” message
Changes appear live
Better collaboration for teams
This feature has been in development for several years.
3. New design tools and blocks
The beta includes several new design features, including:
Video backgrounds in sections
New Icons and Breadcrumb blocks
A more powerful Grid block
Easier font management
These make it easier to customise your site without code.
4. Better mobile design controls
You can now choose to:
Show or hide blocks depending on screen size
Adjust layouts for mobile and desktop
This makes responsive design much easier.
5. Faster image processing
Images can now be processed in your browser before uploading.
This helps improve performance and speeds up media handling.
6. A refreshed admin experience
The dashboard has been updated with:
Cleaner styling
Smoother transitions
Visual comparisons between revisions
It’s not a full redesign, but it improves the editing experience.
What this beta shows
This beta highlights two important changes in WordPress:
Real-time collaboration is now part of core
WordPress now includes the technical foundations for AI features
The beta is still for testing, so some features may change before the final release.
But it gives a clear sense of the direction WordPress is heading.
