    Hi Jamie

Re: Video Tutorial – The easiest way to build a new WordPress site while the old site is live

Can I just check with you.

I have two websites on a VPS account on the same server IP address, so I don’t need to re-point.

Site A: I want to rebuild this site without having to take it down as it will take several weeks to complete.

So if I build the new webpages on site: B and when finished change the siteB url in General settings to the siteA url, do I need to delete siteA from the server before I publish, or will it automatically overwrite.

    Best Regards

    Jamie Marsland

    Hi Allan,

It might be a bit trickier on a VPS server to do it the way shown in my tutorial.

When you set up hosting on a shared server your new install gets a temporary url (like a proxy url for your website). If you are running both sites on the same server then they may have the same ip address, so my tutorial wouldn’t work in this case – but check with your hosting company as they vary on how they handle this.

    OK Thanks Jamie
