    Hi Jamie,
Canvas with boxed layout and trying to add a logo header image of 960 x 180.
I have white space surrounding the logo, tried enlarging to over 1000px but in Explorer7 it slides to the right outside the box (but appears wide enough to fill it) in Chrome it’s still surrounded by white. I did try adding your css tweak #10 in the canvas meta to close nav & logo together but that didn’t work.
I’ve had a go at putting in a child-theme rather than just fiddling round the edges but without success.
I followed Woo info, have the canvas-child folder containing /style.css loaded in /wp-content/themes/
    I have:
    Theme Name: My Child Theme
    Theme URI: http://bouncycastlegrimsby.co.uk//
Description: This is a custom child theme I have created.
    Author: Nigel
    Author URI: http://bouncycastlegrimsby.co.uk//
    Template: Canvas
    Version: 0.1
at the top & have tried it with all of the canvas style.css code loaded into my style.css, with your css tweak:
    #logo a img {
    display: block;
to sort the space between logo & navigation.

    Result so far is:
    Broken Theme
The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.

    Name Description
My Child Theme The parent theme is missing. Please install the “Canvas” parent theme.
Do I need a template file alongside my style.css file?
I’m hoping to match the logo size with the boxed layout size but I’m not even really sure where I should be pasting the css tweak.
I keep reading from searches: “add this css to the style.css”

Again, my problem seems to be that from beginner level, all of the hints, tip, tweaks & methods are posted online by experts who are generously providing the technical information but at a level too advanced for a beginner to know what to do with.

Could you give a fix for the logo size please to save me from any more research sessions, both forearms are like lead from too much mousing.

    Best regards,

    Jamie Marsland

    Hi Nigel,

This should work out of the box,

A couple of things to check first,

    1) I would test without the child theme activated
    2) Is it a logo or a header background image? The 2 are different and have different places to upload in Canvas.

Let me know how you go,

I uploaded the same image as a header background image but it’s cut off a lower section of the image and is still not wide enough to fill the width of the boxed layout. It is as wide as the navigation but that’s also not filling the page. Explorer and Chrome.

I can’t test with the child-theme as it’s just displaying as Theme Broken as per above so I can’t activate it. I would have hoped that such a prominent item as the homepage company banner could be fitted in somehow but there doesn’t appear to be anywhere to adjust the size of this part of the webpage. I could build an image 150px height but not being big on graphics it would probably be a waste of a morning if it’s not filling the space.

    Hi Nigel,

Yes I said to test without the child theme :)

I just uploaded to a clean Canvas install and it looks fine to me?

Just upload as the header background image,

Let me know if that makes sense,

This shouldn’t need any css at all,

ps it might be worth you resetting your Canvas theme options if it still doesnt work for you

The child theme hasn’t been activated at any time, just the original Canvas install but that was a side issue to the header image and wasn’t the cause of the glitch.
I’ve found the problem but not the fix.
I deleted the whole lot & put in a new MySQL and WP site. Updated WP, installed Canvas and tried again and I got the same result as you did with full depth image as per your pootle-band link above.
So then I started deleting the sample page, hello world etc and deleted the title and tagline so it didn’t show over the image I’d loaded (which already shows company info) . That reduced the size of the top element space so causing the reduced size image. I can show the full depth image by adding a fullstop as the title, and using the same bodge for tagline removes the image’s own bottom border. Next problem is, when enabling Boxed Layout it cuts off the right hand side of the image. I deleted it then reloaded using Align Left but no change.

My desired end result it to have boxed layout with a header image displayed without being cropped, with header image and navigation to take up the full width of the box layout, and to eliminate the tile/tagline botch.

    Hi Nigel,

Ideally you should be using 2 images.

One for your logo and one for your background header image.

Canvas allows you to increase the padding top and bottom from your logo. This is how you can dictate your header height to the pixel.

Can you get your header as 2 images? (i.e your logo and header background image)
