  1. Hi Jamie,

I have a question that you might be able to answer if you don’t mind to do with Buddypress.

I’m starting work on the school website that I mentioned to you and will be including Buddypress as a resource for teachers to log into and share resources. As the school pupils are going to be using the site and as they are all below the age of 7 yrs my client has asked for an infant friendly theme and definitely not ‘corporate’, I’ve picked a nice one from Elegant Themes that I reckon I will be able to customise nicely for the purpose.

The problem is that this theme is not Buddypress compatible and all of the ones that are compatible that I’ve been able to find have been a bit dull and staid. I’m assuming that you can only use 1 theme with 1 WP site so would I be correct in thinking that the answer here would be to create a multi site installation and use a separate theme for the second site with Buddypress installed on that?

    Thanks, Gerry

    1. Hi Gerry,

Yes you could start a 2nd blog on multi-site and that would work.

However…. my recommendation would be to use Woothemes new buddypress child theme based on Canvas (the theme we used during our training). I’m using it to build this site (the url will change and it’s a work in progress!) and I’ve also integrated it into I’m also going to use it on a project I’m about to start with Wandsworth Borough Council in London. It’s great because you can customise it to look however you want but it takes care of all the buddypress pages. It’s very powerful and flexible.

      Hope that helps

  2. Hi Jamie,

I’m really struggling with something and have scoured forums to no avail so hope you might be able to help.

I’ve setup Buddypress using canvas and want to ‘Create a Group’ which the teachers using the site can access. Problem is I can’t find a link anywhere to create a group, this seems to be a common problem as I’ve come across plenty of questions on the topic but unfortunately no real answers.

    Thanks, Gerry

  3. Hi Jamie,

Thanks for supporting me again, it’s appreciated.

I’ve just published the site for you to have a look at:

Will call you sometime soon for a chat but as you’re having a family day I’ll not disturb you today, hope you have fun at the zoo. I haven’t done that for ages!

    Cheers, Gerry

      1. Jamie,

Shame about the zoo, weather not too bad up here but we’ve got no zoo and a bit far for you to come if we did 🙂

Thanks for the support that really is good of you and an excellent result for me, pleased you like what is there so far of the website.

I’m just putting the finishing touches to another WP site so I’ll let you see that later this week, none of which I might add would of happened if I hadn’t attended your excellent WP training.

  4. Hi Jamie,

Vis-a-vis the website we working on on Friday. How would I go about changing the title from ‘Pootle Gazette’ to something else that is not a link but a something on a word document or could I write it in?

  5. **(please ignore the above**

    1. Hi Nu’man,

If you delete the image from where it says “custom logo” in Canvas theme options in your dashboard then it will take the words from General Settings.

  6. Hi Jamie,

Could you point me in the right direction for making CSS changes to the Canvas theme when buddtpress is installed. The available css only seems to be for buddypress rather than the canvas theme overall.

I’m hoping to make some changes to the drop down menu and also take off the wootheme logo.

    Thanks, Gerry

  7. Hi Gerry,

You should be able to edit by going into Canvas | theme options.

The woothemes logo is in the footer (or the adspace)

You made need to create some custom css to edit the drop down.

  8. Hi Jamie,

Thanks again for the support, sometimes these things seem to be heavily disgiused or is it just me? I think I know the answer to that!

    Cheers, Gerry

  9. Just signed up for course but wondered if you could help in the meantime. I have just upgraded to 3.2.1 and have lost the colour picker from all colour boxes so cannot select any colours – help!
