    Hi,

    Is there a way to have a static homepage where you can put some nice titles and welcoming text and then have all of your full posts underneath. From what I have seen and read you seem to be able to have one or the other – nice custom text and no posts or posts and no custom text.

    I have probably missed something here but a solution would be great, please.

    Hi Nicholas,

    Some themes support this out of the box. However you could also achieve this by using a plugin such as http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/special-recent-posts/. This will list all your recent posts on a static page – you can also include thumbnails if you wish :)

    Hi Jamie,

    Thanks for the reply. I am using the WooThemes Canvas theme. Can you confirm if this works out of the box. If not then I shall investigate the plugin.

    Thanks,

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

    Nope if you are using Canvas then you will either need to custom code or use the Plugin. The plugin does work with Canvas though as I have used it before :)

    Hi Jamie,

    I haven’t been using WordPress for very long.

    Would you be able to help me a little further? All I want to do is have my posts on the homepage (not as a widget) but in the main pane under a title and bit of text. All I have read about is using this plugin as a widget. I didn’t think you could insert a widget into a main page. Help..

    Hi Nick,

    You can actually use the plugin within a page by using the shortcode. It details how to do this on this page http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/special-recent-posts/installation.

    And here is the shortcode that will work [srp]

    You just put this shortcode into your page

    You can also tailor what is shown by using other shortcodes like below

    [srp post_limit='5' post_random='yes' category_include=3,7]

    Let me know if that works :)

    H Jamie

    That worked a treat so thank you!

    If you have a few moments I’d be grateful to know about your thoughts re teh WooThemes Canvas theme. I know you have dedicated some video time to it on your site which is why I signed up to it. Is it still a good useable theme or are there others that are better.

    The question about it being responsive has given a number of headaches with Google Calendars and other 3rd party iFrames etc not working properly.

    Thanks,

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

    Yes canvas is a great theme – I highly recommend. It is possible to turn of the responsiveness if that is causing you major problems.

    Hi Jamie,

    I would be interested to know how to turn off the responsiveness for now.

    Thanks,

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

    You could add this  to your custom.css file

    @import url(css/layout.css);
    .col-full, #wrapper { max-width: 960px; width: 960px; }
    #top select { display: none !important; }

    If you have changed the site width in theme options then you will need to change the 960px to match it.

    When the responsiveness is active, on an iPhone/iPad the header looks rubbish and the menu is squashed BUT the dropdown menu does work.

    When I deactivate responsiveness the site looks great on the iPhone/iPad BUT the dropdown menu doesn’t work.

    I thought the above would help but it doesn’t.

    Any thoughts? I launch the site on 1 August and it needs to look good and work well on both desktops and iPhone/iPads.

    Your (quick) help on this would be a real life-saver!

    Thanks
    Rob

    Hi Rob,

    You still having problems on this one?

    Apologies for the delay,
