Hi Jamie – I have my first ecommerce client and although, following your training, I have built a few sites using Canvas, I haven’t yet built one usine the woocommerce plugin.

I am stuck as to what theme I should use – canvas or storefront, superstore or another one? The site is for retailing party supplies and my client would like me to model it around this site: https://www.partydelights.co.uk (obviously not copying it, but using some of the design features such as home page slider, categories with images on home page, the multi-coloured main navigation menu etc).

I need to get this up and running quickly so I would really appreciate your thoughts on which theme you feel would give me the speed, ease and flexibility to create something along these lines. I see that some of your canvas extensions could be really helpful with this such as menu customizer and page builder so am wondering if my best option is to go with Canvas purely for these extensions.

    Thanks in advance!
    Juliet

    Hi Juliet,

I would probably go with Canvas as this will give you more control over the design.

Canvas also works great with WooCommerce

You’re going to need some custom tweaks if you want to create those coloured menus and the boxes on the front though.

Our pootle page builder would make creating the layout quite easy though :)

    i hope that helps,
    Jamie

It does thanks Jamie… You’ve confirmed what I thought was probably the best choice, plus I’m already reasonably familiar with Canvas. I’m assuming the Pootle menu customiser will do the job with the menus?

Would you also recommend I set up a child theme?

    HI Juliet,

Yes a child theme is a good idea,

You can highly customize your menus with our menu customizer, but to create different colours for each menu item you would need some additional tweaks,

    Jamie
