I’ve just started managing my website, cos it’s easy right? but when I try to update a plugin or upload a new theme, I get this message
Warning: An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums. (WordPress could not establish a secure connection to WordPress.org. Please contact your server administrator.) in /web/sites/user/0/125/202712/public/www/wp-admin/includes/plugin-install.php on line 77
How do I fix that? Help!!

This sounds to me like it’s most likely a hosting issue. Who are you hosting with out of interest? In the first instance I would contact them and see if they can find the issue.
Let me know how you go :)

Clarenet say it’s not them and I’ve checked the wordpress link they included as it’s not that either..
Any ideas would be appreicated.

this is not a server issue please take a look at the following link with possible solutionMay 18, 2014 at 6:32 pm #13292
It still sounds like a server/hosting issue to me.
A few things to check
1) As someone said in the wordpress forum check the SITE URL is not left blank in Settings -> General.
2) Can you try installing another plugin.
Let me know how that goes – it’s not uncommon for hosting companies to not take responsibility for server issues in the first instance :(

I have sent a grumpy email to Claranet and attempted to update a plugin and get this message
Downloading update from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/wordpress-seo.220.127.116.11.zip…

Quick question: Are you able to upload plugins from your PC and install them?
Could you run a test?

I’m still attempting to update plugins. I can’t get it to accept any new upload, e.g. canvas theme until the updates have been completed.
Been attempting to update Akismet plug-in for more than 20 mins and counting. This is most likely a server issue but Claranet are not interested – I’m now looking for a new host – any recommendations?
