    Hi Jamie

I have built a WordPress site with canvas for a client on one of my dummy URL’s (hosted by Heart).  The client has now purchased their hosting through Heart and I want to transfer the site to the temporary domain reference URL Heart have given me but I don’t know where to start.  Can you give me some guidance please.  I am assuming the first step would be to download WordPress onto that URL and install Canvas – but how do I then go about transferring the content?

    Many thanks

    Debbie

    Hi Debbie,

This is something that Heart Internet should do for you.  You won’t need to re-install Canvas or make any changes as this happens at the server level. But contact Heart and they will help :) To do this raise a support ticket through your Heart Internet account.

Here are instructions (this is from Heart Internet)

    ———————————–

If you have a package in your account that you wish to transfer over to another Heart Internet customer, but they aren’t a reseller (ie they have a Starter, Home or Business Pro), then it is possible for us to assist you to complete this.

Our system administrators are able to move entire packages between customers without any downtime or loss of data – this means all files, mail boxes and any current control panel settings will remain in place and there will be a little risk of any service disruption. Domains will remain on the same server therefore no DNS updates will be necessary.

There will be a charge for this service, as it does involve system administrator time. This price depends on the package it’s being moved to, so first of all please let us know what package the customer has purchased with you and we can provide you with an accurate quote.

Payment will be completed through a payment link that we will add to this ticket once we have confirmed the price and you have accepted. We will let you know when this is available.

Additionally before we can proceed with this migration there are two pre-requisites:

    – The other account must already have a standalone hosting account purchased and ready.
    – They must raise a ticket from their own account, quoting this ticket number (#) giving us permission to move the site over to their control.

Please be aware that if the customer has multiple sites to migrate over to a Business Pro we would only be able to migrate a single site and make this the Primary domain on the package. Any additional domains would need to be migrated manually by yourself or the customer.

Thanks Jamie – I will get in touch with Heart.  I found a thread on the forum which talked about exporting/importing a wordpress site to another URL – is this another option – or would that not be relevant in this case?

    Hi Debbie,

If you are transferring to another account then you don’t need to do the export / import :)

    Hi Jamie

I have managed to transfer the site using the export/import functions on WordPress but for some reason the header image and navigation now don’t line up.   I’ve checked that the site widths are the same and that the image is the right size, but still can’t make it work.  See http://www.pro-lecsolutions.co.uk.

    Any thoughts?

The sliders have also not copied over correctly.

    Many thanks

    Debbie

    Hi Debbie,

It looks like you have fixed the sliders now?

The reason is that Woothemes sliders use absolute urls so you need to change these to your new website address after migration – but it looks like you figured that out :)

I have answer the site width issue on another thread you started,

    Jamie
