    Hi Jamie,

I’m setting up a new website.  I don’t want to choose a domain name yet.

Do I follow your advice in a previous post

By setting up a live server i mean create a wordpress website on a dummy domain name

Once I’ve done that I can learn how to migrate the site.  I’m presuming it’s fairly straightforward to do.  Also, I’m not sure if I asked you about the Featured slider.  I’m having problems getting all the images on my homepage to be the same size.  How do I do this?  Apologies for repeating myself – I couldn’t find it!

    Thanks

    Hi Adrian,

    Here are your answers :)

    1) Yes if you build on a dummy domain you just need to do a domain mapping once you have finished the website. Your hosting company should be able to help you do the mapping – but it’s very straightforward. To advantage of doing it this way is that you don’t need to move any files!

    2) You get the images the right size you will need to size them outside of wordpress.

    Hope that makes sense!

    Hi Jamie,

I am having a similar problem resizing photos – when I resize them they resize proportionally and therefore are all slightly different which looks really odd on my homepage slider.  Any ideas of a  programme or a way to resize them all to one size?

    Thank you!

    Mandy

    Hi Mandy,

For a mac I recommend  Pixelmator to resize them http://www.pixelmator.com/

    Hi Jamie

Is there an optimum size for re-sizing images to upload for a slider?  I too have tried all sorts of option i.e. resizing before I upload, selecting, small, medium and large once uploaded, but all are distorted and huge – whatever the size!

    Thanks

    Debbie

    Hi Debbie,

It rather depends on where you are trying to upload the image (i.e the size of the space you want it to cover). Can you post a link of an example.

    Jamie
