    Hi,
    Is there a simple way to make the overall site’s left and right margins narrower in Canvas? I seem to have about 1cm of blank space on either side, eating up precious space.
    Can’t see any relevant padding parameters in Settings so I assume some custom CSS is needed.
    Thanks for your help
    Daniel

    Sorry, forgot to add that the above issue applies to the Boxed Layout in Canvas, the margins mentioned being between the vertical edges of the box and the page content.
    Thanks

    Hi Daniel,

    Yep you’d probably need some custom css for this – have you seen my css tutorial?

    Hi Jamie,
    No, hadn’t seen your tutorial and have now. Great stuff! Have worked it out and managed to reduce margins.
    One question though: what’s the difference in placing custom CSS using Jetpack or using the Canvas Settings form? Any advantage in using one or the other?
    Thanks
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,

    Well done :)

    Jetpack is probably easier if you are just doing some CSS tweaks. If you are doing more heavy lifting i.e php tweaks etc then you’ll need a child theme.

    Make sense?

    HI Jamie
    I’m having the exact same problem as Daniel was, however I cant seem to figure out how to change the left margins on my canvas pages (once gain in boxed layout format just as Daniel was using). I’ve already got a custom css which contains various changes to my site design. However Im baffled on how to change the pages margins. What element in css do I target.
    Ive gone through the css tutorials but Im stuck on this one.
    Your help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Bill

    Hi Jamie

    Yeah not as bad as before but Id still like to be able to tweek the left and right margins a little.
    However I can’t figure out what element to target though.

    I also use Pootlepress page builder for this site.
    It is possible to do it through this?

    Hi Bill,

    You could try this css – changing the padding left and right values

    .boxed-layout #header, .boxed-layout #content, .boxed-layout #footer-widgets, .boxed-layout #footer {
    padding-left: .5em;
    padding-right: 2.5em;
    }

    Thanks Jamie.
    Worked a treat.
    Page looks a lot more balanced after a few little tweaks.

    Cheers
