Just wondering what your views are on the regulations regarding the distribution and selling of digital downloads (since January 1st this year). If my understanding is correct if you sell any digital products you are liable for VAT in the country where the product has been purchased. In order to avoid having to calculate all of the different European rates the Government has set up MOSS (mini one stop shop) which i believe eliminates the need to register in each individual European country.
My original intention was to sell ebooks via Paypal but because of the potential admin costs involved I might look to sell via Amazon (as selling via a third party would not incur the costs mentioned above).
Can I ask what your thoughts are on this (as a digital seller) and can you let me know what impact these new regulations have had on your own business?
Thanks for your response Jamie. Think a few people are at a loss as to how this is going to be implemented.
Really thought there would be more clear explanations available to help micro businesses.
It’s also a pain for EVERY business selling digital downloads to have to charge VAT regardless of their turnover.
