amie, I’ve been trying to figure this out now for hours…….I am trying to put up 5 pictures on the Canvas slider and the size of the pictures is huge – 2048 x 1365. I tried resizing them to height of 350px as that’s the default slider but it cuts the tops off!!!! I tried adjusting height to 500px and even just tried making them a smaller overall size but it still cuts tops and bottoms off. Help please Jamie!!! Many thanks, Trish. I’ll send you the finished version..one day! It’s for my local hairdresserMarch 18, 2012 at 11:39 am #3725
I’m guessing it’s because of the proportions of the picture. i.e the ratio of height to width. Can you send me the link to the site or the resized image so I can have a look from this end.
You can also increase the Featured Slider Height setting in the Business template settings (found in Canvas/Theme Options/Business TemplateMarch 18, 2012 at 3:35 pm #3726
Jamie, thanks for coming back to me on this – the URL to the site – http://ollarhairteam.com/
The pictures are 2048 x 1365 and I’ve tried all sorts of ways of resizing them. I used the Feature Slider Height as the default is 350px – I tried it at everything and it works around 650px but takes up practically the whole web page :)
I tried choosing the ‘large’ option and even ‘medium’ in WP Uploading Images but it doesn’t make any difference. I even physically resized them using the 350px height option and allowing WP to automatically configure the width in relation to that. It didn’t make any difference. So I truly am at a loss…..
I’ve put 3 pictures on the slider there for you to see Jamie so any suggestions you have will be most welcome. I may need to ask her to ask the photographer to resize and send them, what do you think? What size are the ones you upload from your desktop in the training video, can I ask?
I have a couple of other questions in relation to some columns but I’ll post that in the relevant section so any others experiencing the same will have the answers there.
That site is very much ‘work in progress’ Jamie…..as you will be able to tell :) – and it’s all done thanks to your brilliant training day and those excellent Canvas videos.

Wonderful, thanks Jamie:)March 20, 2012 at 1:52 pm #3750
I have just made a change to your team photo slider. Essentially i resized the photo outside of wordpress to 1000 x 500. I also increased the height of the slider to 450. If you want to descrease the height of the slider back to it’s default size then you will need to crop the photo some more ie. crop the teams legs off and then re upload :)
This is because of the proportions of the photo. Hopefully that makes sense :)
You should also resize the other photos if they are the same size as the team photo – i.e 2000 pixels wide – as they only need to be 1000 pixels wide and they will load more quickly if smaller.March 20, 2012 at 2:55 pm #3787
That’s great Jamie and I’ll get to work on doing that tonight, thanks for your patience and help with this!March 20, 2012 at 7:14 pm #3788
and it’s working perfectly now Jamie, I changed them all to 1000 x 500px and it works a treat, thank you so much for your help with this. Every day’s a schoolday and now I know what to do in future!!

Hurrah :)October 24, 2012 at 11:39 am #7014
in the tutorial you use a 980x450pix image but here you say 1000x500pix? Which is correct or best?
I want to buy an image but the only sizes available are either much larger or a bit smaller so i really need to know what size i should buy (and should i buy bigger and size the image down or smaller & size it up)

It’s really down to subjective taste on the size you choose. Remember you can set your site width in Canvas so the slider should be the same (or larger) than this so that it doesn’t pixelate. You should buy the images larger and then scale or crop them down.
Hope that helps :)
