Hi Jamie, really enjoyed the course on Monday, very inspirational. I want to install a plugin but on the dashboard (admin14 site) it doesn’t have a menu on the plugin item and the Plugin/Browser/Installer link in the Help section tells me:

You do not have sufficient permissions to install plugins on this site.

    Help, please!

    With best wishes

    Hi Andy,

    Thanks for the feedback :)

Yup your training websites are restricted so you’re not able to install plugins on them.

    Jamie,

I’m a bit surprised, though I suspect that there’s a good reason that I’m not aware of.

One of the main elements of the course was about plugins, so that was the first thing I thought I would practice!

I assume I need to get my own hosting to experiment with plugins.

Is there anything else that I can’t do on the training site?

    Thanks

    Andy

    Hi Andy,

Yup it’s because if someone installs a dodgy plugin it could bring down the whole network :)

I do explain this limitation to the training websites on the course but maybe you missed that bit. The other restriction is that you can’t install your own themes (for the same reason).

So yes you’ll need to set up your own website if you want to install your own plugins :)

    Hope that clarifies things,
    Jamie
