    Hi Jamie,

I was wondering the best way to move changes across from one wordpress install to another, here’s a description of what I’ve done and where I need to get to

    1. I took a copy of a clients site using WP Backup plugin
    2. I installed a fresh copy of wordpress and installed customers plugins to the new copy and then made changes to the theme and layout and bit of work on the content
    3. I now want to migrate the changes back to the original site, I don’t want to use something like backup buddy as I don’t want to start deleting databases etc
    4. Is there a simple way to do this, have been researching it for over a week and not come to a solution where I am not messing about with databases etc as I just haven’t reached a level of confidence to do that yet?

    Regards

    Sarah.

    Hi Sarah,

The easiest way is to use the export and import tools in WordPress :)

    Hi Jamie,

Will doing it this way include any changes:

    1. Page content/formatting
    2. Theme settings(am using canvas)
    3. Plugin setting changes
    4. Custom css

I want to be clear on the ramifications of making this changes on a live site before I go ahead.

    Many thanks,

    Sarah.

    Hi Sarah,

    Here are your answers…

    1) The content/formatting should be the same if you are using the same theme
    2) You can import your canvas settings from the old site. See Canvas Backup settings in your old site to export settings. Then import into new site
    3) You’ll need to install any plugins and recreate any settings you made for them
    4) You’ll need to copy across any custom css

Let me know if that makes sense,

    jamie
