Firstly, many thanks for your courses – excellent and clear! I’m using the excellent DesktopServer XAMP to develop offline a WPMS with Canvas as the framework, using BuddyPress to structure the community. So you can see why I came to Pootlepress :)
Working my way through your Canvas masterclass, and experimenting, I hit some issues with the Magazine slider functionality. It seems that in order for the magazine slider to display in the blog, WP Reading Settings must be set to ‘Front page displays Your latest posts’. Selecting this option appears then to restrict me to using only the ‘Homepage widget area’ to set Woo components and other widgets, of which ‘Text’ and ‘Magazine slider’ work fine, but ‘Magazine grid’ component fails to display a grid (showing the posts instead as a list) and ‘Current page content’ component displays the blog as a list without featured images.
Is this basically a restriction of the theme and Magazine slider functionality? I got ‘Magazine grid’ and ‘Current page content’ working fine within the more flexible ‘Widgets’ Page Template widget area, but it seems I can’t have this AND the magazine slider (in blog and on homepage) working at the same time. I’m using boxed layout, but this appears not to make a difference.
Attaches are url’s to a couple of screenshots here to show how the components are currently displaying on homepage and blog.
Many thanks for all and any help/replies on this!June 17, 2013 at 4:17 pm #8925
Update to this: the settings and actions below appear to have enabled functionality of “Widgets” Page Template widgets area, BUT have broken Blog page set as Magazine template – it now displays as normal blog, not with slider and grid. Aaaarrrrggghh! Is there any way around this?
1. WP settings: Reading: A static page: Front page – Gilligans Isle, Posts page – Blog.
NB changed Gilligans Isle slug to ‘gilligans-isle’ [was empty before, therefore causing problem]
2. Blog page = Magazine template
3. Gilligans Isle page = Widgets template
4. Canvas Mag Template setting: 0 Featured Posts before 2-column
5. “Widgets” Page Template widgets area = Component Business slider + Component Page Content + Component Magazine Grid + Text
NB needed to move Component Page Content to top of this area before it set Gilligans Isle into home page; after that I could re-order the components. Phew!
BUT this appears to disable slider and grid on Blog, even though it has Magazine template selected. See this link: http://flic.kr/p/ePdEvxJune 17, 2013 at 6:33 pm #8929Jamie MarslandKeymaster
Try deselecting blog as your posts page in reading settings. The post option should remain unselected in reading settings.
Then make sure you have selected the magazine page template for your blog page.
Let me know if that fixes things,
