Have you seen the latest trend for homepage videos that auto-play in a full width slider? If not, check out Zendesk and PayPal (which do at the time of writing).

We think this is a seriously nice effect and we didn’t want any Canvas users to be left behind. So in this 6-part video tutorial we’re giving you the knowledge and know how to create this effect for yourself step-by-step, including tips on where to find and how to edit your video.

We hope you agree with us that it certainly helps your website pack a punch and stand out from the competition. Not bad for $12 ; )

If you have any other suggestions of how you think this could work for you, we’d love to hear them in the comments below!

Step 1 – Introduction

Step 2 – Setting up the nav bar (sticky header)

Step 3 – Finding & preparing videos

    Hey Nick,

I am using WooSlider 2.0, and I do not get the features to autoplay or loop when adding the Featured Video.

    Thanks, Chris

    1. Hi Chris, we haven’t tested this with WooSlider 2. It is built to work with the slider built into Canvas. If it is popular then we would consider this as a separate plugin to work across all Woo themes. However, autoplay and loop should still be showing. I just checked and we hadn’t updated the file when you purchased. So you just need to grab the updated file. Any probs – email support@pootlepress.com.
      Thanks!

Great and easy shortcut for full-page background vids. Thanks, nice addition to the toolbox.

However, after purchasing and installing, I’ve noticed that with an uploaded .mov file, nothing displays other than an inactive link. Need these be in a particular format for use?

When uploading to vimeo, the same has occurred as above, but as mine is a free vimeo account, I’m presuming it will not ’embed’ anyway due to limitations.

The video ‘did’ display, with the title at the top left with controls at the bottom.

But– on the slide set-up, there are no checkboxes for Autoplay or Loop. Consequently the youtube video, a 3 second clip, went immediately to ‘related’ videos at conclusion.

So– Why is the Autoplay and Loop option available? Is it not allowed on YouTube content? This wansn’t mentioned in any of the videos, perhaps it’s common knowledge of which I’m not yet ‘aware’.

Thanks again for a great addition to canvas-arsenal, and looking forward to making this puppy perform as it should.

    Cheers from Southwest Ohio,

    Michael

On follow-up, mpg-4 uploads seem to work OK.

    2. Hi Michael, thanks for the positive comments. I have just checked and updated the version of this plugin. So please grab the new version (now 1.1.0) This should solve any problems. If you have any more issues, can you please email support@pootlepress.com so we can track and solve things better for you. Thanks! Nick

LOVE this plug in but how do I remove the player buttons from the bottom and the like/share buttons from the upper right of the video so that someone viewing the site doesn’t see those?

    1. Hi Nancy, depends which video editor you are using, but you should do this wherever your video is hosted before you get the embed code there should be options. Thanks, Nick

  5. Just watched all those tutorials – time for bed right now but I’ll be buying tomorrow off the back of them. Excellent tutorial thank you.
